Mainly, I wanted to feature the railed receiver cover mod, the rest of the build is pretty standard, but cool in it’s own right.
At the time of this build, there wasn’t really that many options available in regards to railed dust covers for the Cz 858 on the market, or at least readily available. I really wasn’t that excited to use the side mount option as it looked slightly awkward bulky. I had considered the NEA cantilever option however, due to supply issues, it was nearly impossible to acquire the components. I was determined to mount the optics above the receiver as a posed to the forward, upper handguard position and so, that brought me to the railed cover.
You can see in this photo that the new receiver cover is going to have those flairs on either side as this is how they mount to the receiver itself. At fist I didn’t like the way these flanges stuck out, but you really don’t notice them once the component is installed and optics are mounted. The receiver cover is machined from 6061 T6 billet Aluminium and has a hard anodized coating.
Light weight, Mil-spec Picatinny rail for versatile accessory applications or optic systems, this cover is a great modification to your Cz 858 build.
Mounting bolts will lock the cover down by gripping in underneath the machined groove that runs the length of the Cz’s receiver. I found that these bolts only need to be slightly tightened as the cover is already seated nicely. Keep in mind, you will need to remove these bolts each time you clean you rifle. Also, I took some 150 grit sand paper to remove some of the anodized coating on the under side of the cover. I found I was getting just a little bit of contact on the bolt while cycling the action.
It was nice to get this thing secured in place, finally I would be able to step up and get some optics mounted on the unit; a whole new level of fun!
I’ll just run through the accessory list you see here. Most of you will already be familiar with these components, so hopefully this will simply serve as inspiration for those who are just starting to consider their new build.
